In Bergen County, 40,000 people are living without access to quality health care. Southern Bergen County is among the most challenged areas. For instance, in Garfield, 14.8% of residents live in poverty, more than double the number for the rest of Bergen County (6.8%), and 16.7% are uninsured, nearly triple the number for the rest of the County (6.7%). Without access to regular health care, they risk ill health and the financial burden of medical debt, reducing their ability to provide for their families and keeping them stuck in a cycle of poverty.
Unity Health Partnership is a unique collaboration created to provide more resources to people who live in southern Bergen County. BVMI@UnityHealth in Garfield will expand access to high-quality, free health care for our low-income, uninsured neighbors. Patients there will experience the same compassionate, culturally-sensitive care that’s provided now in our Hackensack clinic.
